Our November 2025 beginners course is now fully booked. Our next course won’t be until around Feb 2026.
** Normal Beginners Course Information Follows **
To shoot at the majority of UK archery clubs you will have needed to complete a qualifying beginners course and be able to show proof of completion. This is mainly for safety reasons and not skill level. We run beginners courses at Compton to provide this. We run 2 or 3 beginners courses per year and pride ourselves on continually improving them.
Beginners course prices in 2024 are £80 Adult, £50 Junior and include approx 12 hours of tuition split into 4 or 6 sessions, depending on time of the year (indoors/outdoors), normally done on consecutive Saturdays (weather allowing) from 10am until 12:30. This includes all the kit you’ll need including; bow, arrows, finger protection, arm protection, quiver and associated accessories. At Compton Archery we provide beginners with a complete kit that is allocated to them and used exclusively by them during the course and potentially up to 3 months afterwards.
Once you have completed our beginners course you will receive a certificate of competence and be able to shoot on your own with your own kit at any of our practice sessions. Sessions are £3.50 for Adults and £3 for Juniors and are around 2 hours. Archers buy a 10 session card which are stamped as you use them. This gives better flexibility than a flat rate monthly charge. You also need to join the sports governing body Archery GB, which is currently £60 Adults and £20 Juniors per year, which provides our Sports Insurance. But we organise all that for you.
We welcome couples and families. We can coach children from about the age of 8 depending on their size and concentration levels and please remember that children will need to be supervised at all times.
Our indoor facility has limited space for spectators so bear this in mind if you’re thinking of coming along with your children etc. Spectators would normally be limited to 2 per child.
All children need to be supervised by parents at all times. You cannot leave under 18s with us unsupervised during a beginners course.
All of our beginners courses are run and supported by volunteers who give up their own time to help promote the club and the sport of archery. For this reason our courses can’t always be on a fixed schedule and now and again we have to make last minute changes to sessions.
